Writers' Weekend

On the second weekend of September, the Writers of the Round Table, a collective of authors of historical children’s books, will be at Museumpark Archeon. On both days, there will be an extensive book market where you can find the most beautiful historical children’s books. The authors will, of course, be happy to sign their own books, and members of the writers’ collective will also read from their work.

Get creative yourself and discover how people wrote in different periods throughout history. In prehistoric times, our ancestors painted on animal hides and cave walls to record their stories and experiences. Try making your own paintings on animal hides, just like our ancestors did. Then travel through time and learn to write on a Roman tabula, a wooden tablet covered in wax that was used for writing and drawing with a stylus.

The Vikings will introduce you to runic writing, a unique form of writing based on runes carved into stone and wood. In the Middle Ages, you can learn the art of calligraphy. You can also watch a demonstration of traditional parchment making.

Presentation of the Thea Beckman Prize 2026

On 12 September, the Thea Beckman Prize 2026 will be presented at Museumpark Archeon. Every year, this prize is awarded to the author of the best historical young adult book. Alongside the adult jury, there is also a youth jury, which presents the Young Beckman Prize for the best historical youth book according to young readers themselves.
