Prehistoric Weekend

During the Prehistoric Weekend, discover what life was like thousands of years ago! Throughout the year, you can travel back to the prehistory of the Netherlands, but during this special weekend, prehistory truly comes even more to life!

In the Mesolithic period, discover how fish was prepared in a pit and how animal hides were cleaned. At the Linear Pottery Culture settlement, you will learn about pottery and can even try making your own small pot. At the Funnelbeaker Farm, experience how flint was worked and see remarkable archaeological finds. In the Bronze Age, cooking takes centre stage and bronze is cast. Finally, in the Iron Age, discover how wool was dyed using natural materials.

Alongside these activities, the familiar experiences are also part of the programme. Bake your own bread on a stick over an open fire or take a journey in a dugout canoe.

The Prehistoric Weekend is the perfect opportunity to see the prehistory of the Netherlands come to life in a unique way. Young and old alike can discover, learn and, above all, experience for themselves what life was like in those times.

Programme subject to change.
